• Home / Products And Processes Design Group (PPDG)

The Products and Processes Design Group has as main objective to develop research in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Los Andes. Research oriented to fill the industry and the state needs with high quality and high recognition in the country and Latin America.

General Information
Strengths

• A high quality professional group composed of teachers who are a guides and models in the country and with master’s, doctorate and undergraduate students
• Infrastructure of high technological level to develop projects associated to products and processes design
• Interaction with the external industry and institutional sector, through projects and specialized training services
• Relations with researchers and international universities
• Academic and scientific recognition at national and Latin American level

Who works with us?

Industry or government sector seeking to:
Optimize its production processes or obtain value-added products
Develop new materials with specific properties
Develop products or processes from industrial by-products
Improve and understand processes or products from biochemical transformations
Prevent industrial accidents
Optimize products design

Research areas

BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Develop products or processes under stablished structures of biochemical engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, in an innovative way, with a positive impact on industry

ADVANCED MATERIALS
Research and develop new products in the colloidal systems area, polymer systems and integrate the study of surface phenomena to new products design and/or existing products with new applications.

PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES DESIGN
Research in processes simulation, control, optimization and integration, as basis for products manufacture with specific requirements (product engineering).

Vision

To be a leading group of technological and scientific development in the chemical engineering area, being a national and Latin American reference specifically in:
• Concentrated emulsions and suspensions
• Surface Phenomena
• Polymeric materials development
• Optimal products and processes design
• Biochemical engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics and molecular biology applied to products and processes development
• Bioproducts and bioprocesses
Integrating in each of them the industrial risk analysis and safe products conception tool.
