In order to promote Colombia-Germany Scientific and Technological Cooperation (CCT), in 2020, several institutions joined in the pursuit of a value chain development for anaerobic bioconversion in Colombia: the Universidad de Los Andes, Universidad Icesi, Agrosavia, CorpoGen, La Libertad Research Center and the Leibniz-Institut DSMZ. The purpose of this alliance aims to establish the scientific bases for an advanced anaerobic bioconversion strategy for different applications in Colombia and other countries. To overcome the current fragmentation of the field, AVAnce (Assembling a Valorization Chain for anaerobic Bioconversion) will bring together and link the specific specializations in fermentation technology, process engineering, metagenomics and metatranscriptomics, microbial culture and biobanks, database management, and analytical and organic chemistry that exists in the German and Colombian institutions.
